things Grampa says, part 3

I got rather upset that nobody wanted to talk about Hiroshima, and called Grampa. I said nobody wants to talk about what happened, but how can we make sure it never happens again if we don't talk about history and learn from it? He said to me that he's given up on changing the world, that he used to think he could make a difference. He said, "World War One was supposed to make the world safe for Democracy. World War Two was the war to end all wars. And look where we are today!" I told him that he has made a huge difference in many people's lives, probably way more than he realizes, and that's all that counts.

You are so blessed to still have a mom and grandparents.
Hiroshima/Nagasaki was so horrible, people want to deny it happened.
I think they called WW I the war to end all wars. Because so many died. It was really ugly.

there's no such thing as a war that isn't ugly. people die. :-(

Yeah, that's true. WW I was the first one they used bombs and gas and all that, and so many more died in it than they had before. I think people really thought that it meant no more wars, just like they thought the nuclear bomb meant no more wars after WW II.
